Matching wooden furniture with your home’s colour schemes

Picking new furniture for your house can affect the overall ambience and vibes in your home immensely. Perhaps the most important thing to consider is how the furniture fits in with your existing colour scheme or a new decor which you are planning.

Different types of wooden furniture bring their own subtle qualities to the room in which they are placed, and this needs to be considered in light of such things as the size of the room, the colour of the walls, carpets and other furnishings.

Oak furniture for example has a warm, soft appearance that can be blended with light shades and warm colours to provide a welcoming ambience when coming home after a long day at work or a chill winter day. Alternatively, when placed amongst bright colours that stand out and contrast with the oak furniture, a modern, eclectic decor can be achieved.

Pine furniture is generally pale by nature, though a number of different types of pine are available, and it can be finished in a variety of ways to give it its final look. Paler items of pine furniture are well complimented by light shades such as cream, ivory and beige, while darker or intensely knotted pine may better suit deeper shades such as mauve, autumn brown or blue.

Ideally, you want the whole of the room to fit together as an ensemble, with each item of furniture and decoration complimenting the rest. In achieving this vision, good planning is essential.
